Pick by situation

A bar running a weekly night

You want sign-up without a clipboard, players reporting their own scores, and the board on the bar TV without a laptop. RackerTracker and Scoreholio both do this; RackerTracker is pool-only with multi-life and chip formats built in and Roku/Fire TV/Google TV channels, while Scoreholio is multi-sport with a very polished dashboard and FargoRate submission on every organizer plan. If the same bar runs cornhole on Saturdays, Scoreholio's one-app story is attractive. If the regulars play three-life 8-ball and want the bracket on the Roku, RackerTracker was built for that night.

A big open or a streamed event

DigitalPool. It is the default for large pool tournaments for good reasons: a free tier that handles most fields, a long history with tournament directors, streaming integration and FargoRate reporting. Its web-first design also means a laptop at the desk, which large events have anyway.

A sanctioned league or a multi-division event

CompuSport if your league operator already uses it (many do), CueScore in Europe. Both are built around divisions, schedules and federations more than around a single night at a bar, and both charge per player rather than per organizer, which scales well for big leagues and awkwardly for a small weekly.

A one-off with eight friends

Honestly, any of the free tiers - DigitalPool's free plan, Scoreholio Social, or RackerTracker's free trial or $4.99 single event. Pick whichever your players already have on their phones.

Where RackerTracker is weaker

We do not report results to FargoRate for you (ratings live on profiles for seeding; submission goes through FargoRate's own system). We are pool-only, so a venue that runs darts or cornhole needs a second tool. We are newer than the others, with a smaller installed base and fewer years of edge cases behind us. And our organizer pricing is a flat subscription, which is a worse deal than per-player pricing for a once-a-quarter 12-player event - that is what the $4.99 single tournament is for.

What we did not verify

Prices and features above come from each company's website or published documentation on the dates noted; we have not run a head-to-head test of every feature, and plans change. If you work on one of these products and something here is out of date, tell us and we will fix it.

Questions people ask

Which app lets players sign up by QR code?
RackerTracker and Scoreholio both offer QR-code self registration. DigitalPool, CompuSport and CueScore offer online registration through a link.
Which apps report to FargoRate?
DigitalPool and Scoreholio document FargoRate reporting. RackerTracker stores Fargo ratings on player profiles for seeding and pairing but does not submit results.
What is the cheapest option for a weekly bar tournament?
